RSS Feeds for Grocist

Grocist (My free barcode-driven grocery list application) now has RSS feeds. Here’s an example how it looks in Google Reader:
Barcode Grocery List RSS Feed in Google Reader

Neat, huh? As you can see in the screenshot, it also has the handy search links, so if you’re say bored, reading your RSS feeds, you can go ahead and search the internet for better prices on say, Dial Soap. Of course some grocery items make a better fit for potentially buying on the internet. Perhaps something like Brita filters would be cheaper on the internet?

If you haven’t done so yet, go check out Grocist now. I’ve got plans for a lot more exciting features coming up.

I just signed up for your service after mounting a touchscreen under my kitchen cabinet. I even bought a scanner on ebay just to try it out.

I would like to suggest that you add a lightweight interface for mobile devices. I keep a Blackberry with me and it would be great to have the list with my via browser.

I’m looking forward to using your product!

    Andrew,

Your kitchen setup sounds neat. I’d like to make an interface for mobile devices but alas I don’t have any suitable mobile device to test it on. If you are interested, perhaps you could create a CSS file for me that makes Grocist look nice on the Blackberry, and I’ll add it to the site for Blackberry users.

I’ve never created a CSS file before (although I’m willing to try). The following website points to Opera’s small-screen feature for developing a cell phone interface http://webdesign.about.com/od/wireless/a/aa070307.htm.

I think the main thing is to keep it really simple: login/password and then display the list. Sorry to be naive, but can you customize the html or whatever based on the device type? I’ve noticed that some websites automatically reformat themselves on my Blackberry, but I don’t know how.

Greg - you can advertise it as Blackberry friendly. I was going to the website and not the RSS feed.

Andrew, how does that work? Does the Blackberry format the RSS nicely for you?

    Greg,

I documented my KitchenPC project and a picture of Grocist on my Blackberry is on the site at http://www.geocities.com/usabeauchamp@verizon.net/KitchenPC.html

Andrew, that’s excellent! My kitchen computer is just an old laptop :-( I’m jealous.

Hey, would you mind sending me a picture of the computer with Grocist on the screen and/or a picture adding an item to Grocist? I’ll do a blog post about it here.

(BTW You may want to try Google page creator for future one-off web pages since it doesn’t add that ad-sidebar like Geocities does.)

    Greg,

Drop me an e-mail and I’ll send you a picture of my brother-in-law scanning in a cereal box. I ended up moving the page to http://kitchenpc.blogspot.com for better readability and comments.
